Absolutely saved me a headache! I replaced an old broken rear mechanism and the new one didn't have a built in index adjuster. I didn't want to go through the hassle of installing an inline regulator. They easily fit almost anywhere you want. Strictly speaking, they are designed for cable stops on the top/down tube, but can also be attached to the rear derailleur if desired. I personally attached it to the derailleur to mimic the function of the built-in regulator on some steering wheel derailleurs. This makes it easy to set up indexing on the fly. The bolt has a wide range of inward and outward movement, giving you plenty of room to maneuver if you are too loose or too tight on the cable while pinching it on the derailleur.
