different models - it makes no sense for electronics, especially routers because they have different firmware etc.] This model does not work for Time Warner Cable in Brooklyn, NY. I can't speak for anything else. It connects and as soon as you log in it says it's connected to the internet. You call TWC, give them a Mac address and they activate it. Easy enough right? Certainly not. Somehow it is automatically assigned to DNS servers in the 69.134.xxx.xxx range. The old DNS servers were in the 209.18.xxx.xxx range. After a considerable amount of time, I found something online that suggested it might be an issue with IPv6, which helped fix some of the issues. Light then I called TP-Link at night. no one is available. Then I finally figured out a very heavy accent (difficult to understand). She wasn't very helpful and after a few minutes admitted she wasn't in tech support. The next day I contacted someone via chat. I told her about the DNS issue and asked if there was a firmware update that would allow me to change my DNS settings to specific servers (possibly Google servers). She suggested configuring DNS servers manually via LAN settings. It struck me as very suspicious. I would be grateful if I could just specify which servers to use for my local area network (like LAN) and not for connecting to anything outside the internet (WAN). I was right. It did not work. After spending a total of 3-4 hours over a 2 day window, I realized I have more important things to do in life. Finally, the Wi-Fi on this one is only 2.4GHz. I don't remember reading this before I bought it, but maybe I just missed it. Dual band is always better.
