Setting up the weather radio was as easy as I expected. I was able to set my region fairly easily and just turn off notifications I didn't need. For example, the Missouri River is above high water level in Omaha to the Northeast right now. So every little storm triggers a flash flood warning in my area. I'm far enough from the river and far enough from the flood plain that I don't need a high water alert, especially at 3am when it's raining. So I turned off the flood warnings. I just want to be woken up in the middle of the night by a massive thunderstorm, tornado, or biological/chemical/nuclear disaster. This radio lets you set it up that way. The reception is clear. I had several cheap portable weather radios for $15 a pair, and there was no way they could pick up the NWS signal. Reecom isn't even fighting it, that's pretty clear. The only downside, if it's a downside at all, is that if you're in another room with the TV on, you won't be able to hear it at all, even at max volume. They must be in the same room. Not sure I would call this a downside as you can bring the radio into whatever room you are in, especially if inclement weather is expected. This thing works so well I might as well buy a second one. Other thoughts. If you have old/tired/poor eyesight you may find it difficult to see the screen and instructions, so it's best to have glasses handy. Also, I considered buying a model with AM/FM radio, but in the end I decided it would be my weather radio, not AM/FM radio. I have a separate battery operated AM/FM radio ready in the basement so I can listen to the radio and still have the Reecom capability as a weather radio if we need to hide in the basement. **Update 08/27/2012: The weather radio does not work. It's been a little over a year and nothing. The screen went black, I don't know what happened. He may have been dead for a while and I just realized it now. There hadn't been a storm in months, so I didn't pay much attention to it. I just happened to check and it was taken care of. I emailed the seller to see what he had to say but I'm pretty sure it's been 1.5 years since I bought it and the warranty has expired and everything is up my expense goes. I think I'll just buy another one. I didn't expect to have to buy it every year. I'll take the same brand because it was good while it lasted, but if the next one dies right out of warranty I'll go back to lower my rating even further and switch to competitors.
