Handy serrated knives for making homemade soup

I've used these paring knives with no problems, mainly for slicing onions and potatoes. When the first big snowstorm hit here, I had just used one of these two knives to cut pork steak and various vegetables for homemade soups. With a serrated edge, this knife worked well for slicing pork steak into small pieces. It was like a steak knife. The small size allowed me to cut off the fatty parts as pork steak is quite fatty. I didn't try to remove all of the fat, just areas of pure fat. I chop carrots, celery, onions and potatoes to add to my soup. The jagged edge tended to leave its pattern on the carrot chunks, especially the larger carrot chunks. The user may not care because I didn't care, but it was interesting to note. Apparently this doesn't happen with softer vegetables. While it will slice through the bottom of carrots decently with some pressure and care, I think these paring knives will struggle with larger, tougher veggies simply because of the knives' small size. I have sharper knives, but these paring knives are pretty sharp, small and handy. I also like that there are two of these knives in the set because I can switch knives between meat and veg/fruit if I want and often one of these knives just isn't enough when I'm splitting up the kitchen chores. I like the blade of this knife for its sharpness, serrations and small size. The pen looks like cheap plastic, which is probably why the care instructions call for hand washing. In any case, I usually hand wash a lot of small plastic items and pots and pans, so this is not a big problem for me. I'm rating them 4 stars because they are good paring knives for everyday use, although they are a little trickier to use on large hard veggies like the bottom of a large carrot.
