I was looking for a bookshelf to replace the cheap black basic bookshelves I have had for years. This one is relatively inexpensive, and while not solid wood, it is really beautiful and feels like something I am proud to display in my home. As you can see in the pictures, I have quite a large number of books, yet the shelves seem very sturdy. It was a bit of a hassle to put together, and I consider myself pretty good at assembling furniture. Three times, I put the pieces together backwards, which is really easy to do as it's not really described in the assembly instructions. I would recommend for you to really step back and try to visualize how it's going to look before you spend hours with that little allen wrench. By the way, the instructions say not to use power tools, but eventually I got fed up and used my power drill - it was fine. Just be gentle with it. The bookshelves come with brackets so you can fasten them to the wall for support, but they are kind of ugly. It's essentially just a wall bracket that you use zip ties to attach the bookshelf. Really ugly, and you just have to cover it up with books or something to hide it. Overall I am very pleased, and will probably buy another one of the same kind when my book collection outgrows this shelf (as it already has!)
