I bought this hydrometer a few months ago and after measuring specific gravity with reverse osmosis brew water and getting readings of around 0.990 each time I thought maybe I had a defective instrument. . I contacted Brewing America and within minutes received an email response advising me to test the calibration with distilled water if I could. Two days later I received another email asking me to see if I had the opportunity to test the hydrometer with distilled water. When I finally got some distilled water to check the hydrometer it read about 1000 as it should. Although at first I thought I had a problem with the hydrometer, the company very quickly and respectfully walked me through checking its calibration and gave me confidence that if it turned out to be faulty, they would take care of me.
