Review on ApplianPar Gasket Hyundai Elantra Sportage by Andy Thorson

Don't buy if you don't want it leaking like crazy!

EDIT: PHOTOS ADDED. THE BIG THING IN THE PICTURES IS THE ORIGINAL FACTORY GASKET. Despite getting a deal here, I got what I paid for in the end. As a mechanic with years of experience, I should have known better. As I took everything apart I noticed that this gasket was slightly smaller in diameter (like you cut it in half and looked at the cross section) than the original I pulled out. It was exactly the same design layout. I had concerns but I did it in the middle of the night and had to put it back together and I was just really hoping it was still "big enough" to close the valve cover. The original I pulled out was quite fragile so I couldn't put it back in. I'm stuck with this. And it didn't work. Immediately after everyone assembled the engine and started it, oil leaked from the back of the valve cover (it's tilted, the rear is lowered) straight onto the exhaust manifold, which then of course burned out and stank horribly. Everything was tightened to spec and my concerns about the gasket being slightly smaller in diameter than stock proved to be worrisome. I basically spent my money and time on this pad and I regret buying it. Since none of the reputable aftermarket seal manufacturers seem to have one (like Felpro) I have to special order one from the dealer (out of stock of course) and do the job again. prefer and skip these.
