I have been crocheting for 47 years; I've been using Clover Soft Touch hooks for 15 years and I really like them. I mostly use a pen grip and the pointed end of the soft-touch hooks was very comfortable for me. I was going through a period where I hadn't crocheted for a few years but started again a few months ago and thought it was time for some new crochet work. Based on the rave reviews I decided to try an amour hook before purchasing the set. I expected to fall in love with him instantly, but I didn't. I wasn't even sure if I liked it. A hook without a point felt like an awkward grip on a pencil, and the grip rubbed the middle finger. I figured this might work better for a knife-handled user. I was disappointed and decided not to order the set. I went back to my soft touch crochet but recently bought a yarn that was prone to breaking. I switched to the Amour hook and found that it handles this yarn much better as the hook is deeper (although not built in) and grabs the yarn in one piece better. I also seemed to have more power and leverage with this longer, stronger grip, and found that with a little grip adjustment, I could crochet faster and without wrist pain. It made me have to have a set! I ordered it yesterday and can't wait for the hooks to arrive! I would advise experienced knitters in particular to only order one needle per sample at first; This non-tapered handle might not be for everyone, but it's definitely worth investigating.
