I'm so happy with my new Sangean RCR-20 clock radio that I was wondering what others were unhappy with. The biggest complaints were poor AM reception and poor Bluetooth playback. I compared the RCR-20 to two AM radios and found them generally comparable. Radio-Locator.com lists six AM stations I should be tuned into by my zip code, and the RCR-20 picked up five; the sixth came when I turned the radio for better reception. However, only four of these were quiet enough for regular use. For AM, you want to be listening to a strong local station. The complaint about the low Bluetooth level is justified. I had to crank the RCR-20 and my Galaxy smartphone to near-maximum volume, but then got clean, room-filling sound. Another complaint was the difficulty of programming. I am very sensitive about this and returned another model because it was too confusing. The RCR-20 is digital and therefore more sophisticated than older radios. You have to hold down some keys and it's not intuitive, but I quickly learned the pattern. Some complaints are personal opinions about the looks and sound quality. I think the radio looks great in any room and the sound is exceptionally clear for a small radio, even at maximum volume. The RCR-20 does not have an atomic clock - it does not receive government time signals from Fort Collins or Hawaii. . Instead, it receives less reliable time and text signals from some local FM stations. When you tune the RCR-20 to one of these FM stations you will see text below the time on the display and the clock and calendar will be set. The setting is saved if you then tune into an AM or FM station that does not broadcast these signals. The time will be incorrect if you tune into a station in a different time zone or a station that does not broadcast accurate time signals during daylight saving time. See the Radio Data System Wikipedia article for more information. The benefit of the RCR-20 is that it displays RDS so you can see the station name, program type such as "Rock Music" and the song title. To investigate backup complaints, I ran some experiments and was very satisfied. The RCR-20 will wake you up on time, even if the power has been off for hours. If you set it to wake up to the radio and the power goes out, it will buzz (actually beep) instead. One feature: If the radio is playing while it's off, it won't turn on until you press the power button. Finally, some users have complained that they cannot find the buttons by touch. Three suggestions: use the buttons on the remote, don't touch any buttons and the radio will turn itself off after an hour, or button a small shirt button over the RCR-20 button (but don't let the glue get in). .In conclusion, I would like to say that buyers have no regrets - I am very satisfied with the RCR-20.
