I've always been that kid who would pick up a new box of crayons, throw them all away and then rearrange them into color themes instead of leaving them in the mess that comes in adult boxes with crayons and pens for everyday creativity, this bag is almost perfect! My pencils are standard size and fit perfectly. My regular sized gel and colored pens work well too. My grips, which are a bit thicker, fit, but I have to skip the slots to accommodate them. Luckily I only have a few of the ones that I use regularly. There's also room for a smaller, thinner sharpener and something like an eraser. If you have a short ruler/straight edge you can definitely throw it on one of the split areas as they don't fit tight enough to make it difficult or endanger your pens/pencils. I've only ordered one of these to see how it works and since I'm happy with it I may order more for my other sets.
