WARNING - PLEASE READ, COMPLETELY CHANGES THE CHARACTER OF HEADPHONES.

I've been using my pair of Audio-Technica MSR-7s for a little over a year and the pads are starting to wear out. I thought they were the best substitute. They fit perfectly, they're ok, but they're not as good as the stock MSR-7 pads. After putting them on I was speechless, I was hoping that some of the reviews I've read here about their change in sound signature were only talking about it from a minimal point of view. The main reason I bought the msr-7 was their bass response. After about an hour in a headphone shop testing each one I've decided it's the best of them all, for that reason you get a good subwoofer that doesn't get out of control and comes across as dense and assertive. I'm not a "bass head" at all, but I love a balanced and powerful low-end response from just about anything. Now imagine the horror of putting them on my headphones and hearing *zero* bass. I have no idea how this happens but I suspect it has something to do with the padding material used in it, maybe it's low density, maybe it's more porous. Headphone drivers, I tested this and pushed the drivers closer to my ears to see if there is a difference. with him. It just sucks everything out completely. I can listen to my standard pads all day without fatigue, but after testing these pads for 10 minutes with different genres of music, I had to take them off. I felt the feeling you get from being blasted with high frequencies for a while, the noise grid of your eardrums is a trait my headphones never showed. feeling like they somehow manage to turn up the mids and highs so much that I had to take them off because I was actually getting nauseous. Most people come here to swap out the pads on their m50x. I see that it would make sense why they aren't that dissatisfied with them - since this headphone model has a fairly flat audio output, I guess the difference in sound wouldn't be that obvious? I am of the opinion that replaceable ear pads should match the headphones as far as possible in terms of sound - so it makes sense that they should fail completely. TL: DR? I like the music I listen to, it makes me happy. :) When I wear them, the music I listen to doesn't make me happy. :(If you like the character of your headphones and how they sound, just avoid them. Seriously.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
