Maybe it's enzymes, but for the first time the oily film on the surface of the water in my aquarium disappeared within a few hours. Also, compared to other products, you can actually see the contents of the bottle. So it's probably more concentrated and doesn't smell bad. The only thing I didn't like was the instructions, they make it seem like you have to add this forever. Instead, I went on a maintenance dose.
