Review on Schwinn Deluxe Bicycle Wheel Mounted by Adam Abner

Unacceptable - Backrest screws snapped off during installation - cheap steel

Purchased after reading reviews. The problem, and this is more than a problem, maybe the recall is justified, is that the bolts that attach the rear legs to the seatstays are cheap steel and come off easily with little effort. The saddle design has these two bars that extend from the seat post and attach to the seat stays (these are tubes on a bike that are usually welded slightly behind and below the saddle and connect to the chainstays on the rear axle). I mainly deal with car maintenance and have been doing bike maintenance and repairs for decades. I am familiar with the torque requirements of various fasteners. Carriage bolt 10mm. I used my own ¼" drive ratchet, not 3/8" or 1/2" (virtually impossible to tighten this seat with an adjustable wrench as instructed in the instructions). I applied normal force to the wrench and saw the bolt snap off easily on both sides. I replaced the bolts with hardware grade ¼" bolts and nuts and was able to tighten them fully. Now the supports are secure. Luckily I had that nut tightening experience, with mounting bracket attaches to the seat post. This issue should be addressed immediately by the manufacturer. The use of such inferior equipment for these critical components is unacceptable.
