I am not a runner so I cannot rate this product for this purpose. I bought this waterproof cell phone strap to wear while doing water sports: kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling and paddleboarding. I was dying to have a belt extender to wear over a life jacket (in windsurfing and sailing) but there is a temporary issue with the extender not fitting the buckles on the belt. Emma from Runtasty did a great job on this issue. She will send a new extension cord once the issue of mismatch with her supplier is resolved. I used to wear one of those plastic bags that hang around my neck, but I really don't like things around my neck for comfort and security reasons. Those other bags kept rocking and getting in my way, and there was also an issue with the plastic against my skin on a hot day. This Runtasty waterproof belt is so comfy I hardly notice I'm wearing it! My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S8+ and it fits this case perfectly. The material feels soft and is definitely waterproof, and the touchscreen works great when inside. There is a see-through window on the back so you can take pictures with the phone's rear camera, but I have to remove the strap to use this feature. My phone has enough air that goes in with the phone and keeps the strap afloat if dropped in water. I don't know if this will work on another phone so test it and see. I'm very happy to finally have a convenient and safe way to take my phone with me while I'm on the water!
