Has worked well for 8 months

This modem/router has worked well for 8 months. It was very easy to set up and had great speeds. Also, we live in a 3 story building. Wi-Fi has arrived everywhere with great force. It was working fine up until this month, but 2 weeks ago we found that we are connected to Wi-Fi but have no access to the internet. Basically, there was something "DoS" or a "tear attack" on our router that caused it to reboot but not turn off the WiFi signal. Comcast wouldn't help because we bought this unit (to save $11 a month on rent) and said the problem was with the router/modem. We practically couldn't reach Netgear at all. Netgear has terrible, terrible customer service. After endlessly searching their forums for the error codes we received, it looks like the problem was with our wireless HP printer. We disabled and locked the printer on our network, but that didn't fix the problem. We figured the best case scenario would be to start over with a new modem/router and settled on the Motorola, which has worked well so far (although the Wi-Fi signal is a bit poorer throughout the house). If you're looking to save on Comcast rent I would suggest getting your own router/modem and while that's a good option, be aware that you won't get the service you get from Netgear need if you encounter problems. Maybe it's better to stay away from it.

Pros
  • Builds confidence
Cons
  • Mostly OK, but...
