There's definitely a learning curve. I am a first time betta owner and am trying to do the right thing with my small fish. I have a 4 liter tank. And this is just for me. I confess that I wrote this review earlier and wanted to give it fewer stars, but that may actually be user error. I watched two videos where someone uses this particular siphon and someone uses an enlarged version. I will say that the technique I used in the video I posted is the best for this particular siphon. There are instructions on the packaging but I didn't like that you have to submerge everything in water. I simply dipped the siphon in the water and then pointed it straight up until the water almost reached the green part. Then I dipped it again to fill the siphon and then started using it. Just make sure the end of the hose is in a bucket (or something to collect water) well below your tank. I've tried putting my small bucket on the same level (table) as my tank and nothing like that. So it was MY BAD. I would prefer one with a pump so I can light it up right away. But for the price it's great.
