My eight year old is into taekwondo and we train at home for his form, sparring, punching and kicking. He really did everything to look sharp and handsome and to get his kicks high enough. When I got them and gave him something that could actually hit him, he felt so much better! It also added an element of fun to the exercise. They come as a pair but they are not left/right hand specific so the thumb and forefinger glove are the same at the back so it may seem odd but once worn they fit well and don't let fingers go sizzling. The cuffs are heavily padded so that well-aimed and well-executed punches and kicks do not cause any damage. They are not real leather but they work great. Yes, they smell strongly when you open the package, but a few days in the fresh air in our guest room - and everything is fine.
