Works great. Batteries are not required. It ticks all the time while the timer is running, which can be annoying for some. For me it is not critical. The sound is quite loud when turned off. No problem being heard in another room with headphones while watching a movie. The ringing lasts about 3 seconds. I love that it doesn't ring and I don't have to fiddle with the timer to turn it off when I need to attend to something on the stove. The magnet is strong. I was hoping for something I could take to another room if needed, but the device's shape and weight, as well as the powerful magnet, doesn't make it very portable. Since it's noisy when he leaves, it doesn't bother me that much. But if my house was bigger and I was in the back room, I would consider something more portable.
