So close. for jumpers, chargers and portable power supplies

When it works it's a great inverter with good features: - Soft start so the outputs aren't over-volted initially. - Ability to turn it on with the remote control or a physical switch. - Pure sine wave. - Remote control with statistics such as input/output voltage, consumption and suggested input voltage chart. Unfortunately, I can't keep my device running. I realize this is my negligence, but a bad connection on one of the battery posts caused a very small arc between the post and the wire. This was enough to instantly explode one of the input MOSFETs. The input is protected by three 30A fuses. When they explode, the shorted MOSFET is basically on fire. I ordered new ones (part # FTP08N06A) and replaced all (six) just in case. Unfortunately this particular part number is only available from China from an unknown brand. The replacement took a week and a half and exploded again. This was when consuming only about 100 watts. I couldn't find any loose contacts, but maybe one was somewhere in the circuit and only showed up momentarily. In general, the device should be able to recover from a brief input pause like this. I have other inverters that even disconnect batteries with alligator clips without any problems. My device may have been faulty, but at the moment I can't recommend it. The aluminum box is designed to contain the escaping flames, but it's not worth the risk. I like the device, so I will try to find a suitable replacement from a well-known manufacturer. Infineon seems like a very good replacement, so I'll try that soon and see if that solves the problem.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
