Review on 4920 Airties Smart Wi Fi Extender by Leo Torres

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent with few exceptions

The Airties 4920 does what it's supposed to do and that should give it a solid 5 stars. The only reason I can't is that AT&T doesn't really know how to support this device. It starts with the device right out of the box. It's easy enough to install, but it probably won't be for many people, and those are the people who expect some sort of guide in the box. No, not there, you have to search the internet for installation instructions. Once you've got it installed and running, it takes a while as Airties has to silently update its firmware to an AT&T version that doesn't ship on the device. Even the AT&T Smart Home app doesn't show connections to Airties, even though they are there. The reason for this is that since Airties is a mesh, it simply duplicates the WiFi from your gateway. Airties was designed to work with just two AT&T gateways: BGW210-70 and 5268AC. Your mileage with any other gateway will vary and may or may not work. You need to go to a place in your house where the Wi-Fi signal is usually weak, disable/re-enable Wi-Fi and you will see an improvement. Also keep in mind that AT&T is temporarily giving away these devices. When they go into the smart home app, many people see a notification that they have poor coverage and get free Airties from AT&T, including shipping.
