The part is junk unless you have an old base control ring. The manufacture of the ring and the actual base leaves vertical plastic grooves in the moving parts. When they try to slide over each other, they mesh like stupid gears, but the pieces get cheaper and cheaper. The solution: remove the plastic ring from the old one, in my case it's a 1989 timer, and replace the new ring, it's buttery smooth now. Annoyed, I had to parse everything twice due to poor CDI craftsmanship. It shouldn't be, but it is what it is. How long this one lasts isn't as long as the old one, that's for sure. The old one was metal with some plastic in it, it's 100% plastic and it's not even smooth. Buyers beware to keep the old one!
