Thick and soft, but the material stretches very easily. This could be dealt with, but the straps sit uncomfortably over the shoulder and children feel like they are falling and keep pulling them up. Alternatively, it can also be converted into a cross, but this causes pinching under the armpits. Served its purpose for a few days of performance but I wouldn't buy it again and they wouldn't wear it again - I bought it for 2 kids, both had the same problem.
