Full disclosure, I did not install it myself. I asked my electrician to come and do it. We had a lot of problems, for example there was no box right there - they had to adjust and add something on the ceiling, cut holes, blah blah blah. It's not the world's fault, it's the old owners and all their weird homemade products that really require a professional. I called in a professional and he fixed a few things. then he installed the light - so he had to deal with all sorts of weird things with the wiring. He didn't use direction - just stated it but made no comments about there being anything odd about it. So I'm going to talk more about the light/fan itself than the installation. So, I have this space in the house between the kitchen and the big living room - there is no air. general. two ventilation slots in the kitchen point in the other direction. and the vent in the great room is on the other side of the room and frankly is kind of blocked from letting air in. This room has a sliding glass door. So it gets very hot in this place. very hot. simply the hottest place in the house. Also, ovens sit in this area too, so on cooking days I lugged another fan or a second portable air conditioner to keep the air circulating. On top of that the lightbulbs the previous owner chose were a big box with 4 long fluorescent tubes. Pooh. Too much for this small space to be honest. plus it was all eye hurt. so let's beat him! It was a good day. This room also had a slightly lower ceiling, so whatever I replaced it with should be somewhat flush with the ceiling and not dangling underneath. Bring the light! ok - so now i have a light and a fan in this little kitchen transition space. now about that.1) This is not a traditional ceiling fan. it is a closed fan. So the air really goes straight down. It's not a big breeze in the room right where you stand. 2) The light is amazing - you have multiple levels to choose from. That's good because when I turned it on it was really bright - too bright for a small spot so I was happy to turn it down. 3) the fan does not reverse. it goes in the same direction all year round. So I hope this is the right choice for you. it's ok 4) it's unobtrusive! This is ideal for rooms with low ceilings. it would be great in the bathroom! 5) It will be difficult to clean. it will definitely collect dust! and the blades are clean so it is visible. therefore it must be cleaned regularly. I'm not entirely sure how this will go, but I need to find out. 6) it is 100% remote controlled. 2 AAA to use as no batteries are included. Just make sure you put it near a place where you can put the remote where you remember it being there. it will be very easy to lose! Overall, for me, the pros outweigh the small cons. I'm very happy to have a great lighting/fan option. Over time I'll probably replace it with another version of the same style. I love this concept and it's the perfect fit for this space so everything is fine.
