Review on Polycom SoundStation IP 5000 - PoE Powered (Power Supply Excluded) by Deborah Lewis

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The speaker isn't loud enough, the mic made everyone sound far away (in an office with a white noise system).

I really wanted this to work as the price and form factor seemed right for what we wanted, but we just couldn't get it to work. We wanted this for a development team of 5 people. 4 worked in the office 12x12, 1 remotely. The remote worker spoke softly and was difficult to understand using the existing Polycom IP 7000, which we temporarily removed from our main conference room before getting the IP 5000. The IP 5000 rendered this person completely incomprehensible because the speaker was not loud enough. The same happened with the microphone. The IP-7000 worked, the IP-5000 made everyone sound like they were far away and whispering in the background. I've spent hours tweaking the gain settings using the polycom voice.gain.rx.analog.chassis.IP_5000 configurations for Rx/tx and D/A signals and a sound level meter, which improved volume and response slightly, but it the case was still not sufficient. . To be fair the office has a white noise system which can be detrimental to work but the IP-7000 worked great. Sent back and ordered another IP-7000.
