I bought this for my 7 year old grandson. Since he doesn't live with me anymore and doesn't have an iPhone, we set him up so that he doesn't get a notification if he's not in the app. However, he has an iPad that he keeps with me and since he spends every weekend with me we can sync and charge it every 7 days. Ideal. All he has to do is wear it, don't take it off unless he's taking a bath, and enjoy. (Reduces the chance of losing it.) All the kids in his 1st grade have it and spend their breaks walking or running along the path to see how many steps they can get! There's also a very cool wall map that we can use to set goals and "compete" on each other throughout the week! Since I have a Fitbit, we can compare at the end of each week! The Timex I bought him stays in his "treasure chest" (but he can read a regular watch face), so while the tracker won't let him practice "telling the time," he can at least know what time it is it is. This is because it will be on his wrist. Add this: I gave him my old iPad Air2 to upgrade the mini he had and I'm assuming the iPad Air 2 will be considered a second generation which isn't supported by this tracker's app . However, I just install the app on my phone and it can be synced every time we see each other. No deal breaker. But it would be nice if it supported older Apple products.
