Petphone tracker has helped so far. We live in a rural area with some dense woodland and open grassy areas and that is what has led us to our basset hound so far. The radar function helps to know in which direction to move. I was skeptical of how the tracker attaches and would have preferred it had a strong Velcro strap that threads through the frame, but so far the rubber straps have not snapped with almost daily use. I used it for about a month. Love the lack of a monthly fee and you can share it so another phone can track it as long as it has the app. I wish the battery would have lasted longer because if your dog is missing for 24 hours the battery will most likely die. We charge at night. I love that it has a rechargeable battery and case that holds its own charge (about 3 charges) when you're not at a camping power source or during a power outage.
