Review on Haier ESAQ406T 22-inch Window Air Conditioner Serenity Series with 6,000 BTU 115V W/ LED remote control in White by Krystal Saddler

Long gone, but I like it so far. This is by far the quietest window air conditioner I have ever used. It was just in time for the hottest days of the year. The mid 90's and high humidity hit. This is in our master bedroom which is bounded by 3 exterior walls and is approximately 12ft x 24ft. Not exactly a small space for this air conditioner. We used to have GE units (8k Btu) and Frigidaire (8k Btu). They were standing by the window farthest from the bed. The GE was so loud my wife let me turn it on while we slept. It was too loud for me too, but I'd rather be loud and cool than quiet and hot. The way the air came out of the ducts, it really only wanted to go in one direction, no matter what the vents were. That's why we bought Frigidaire. It was significantly quieter, and according to a salesman at a major BB shop, many people were generally happy with it. It was much quieter, but still loud. The window kit was fairly complete but very demanding in terms of level (or not). If it were level, water would collect in it and cause problems. After reading hundreds of reviews on an older version of it (lower EER rating) and there were no reviews at the time we ordered this, we decided to give it a try. . The item arrived and as we walked up the stairs we noticed that the weight in the box was much heavier than other air conditioners we have had. It arrived well packaged and undamaged. Hats off to UPS and Revain! Unboxing was a bit of a hassle for me as it's sort of a box within a box. I had to be helped to pull out the inner box. I read the quick start guide and opened the window. I turned it on and nothing happened. The fan worked but no compressor so there was no cold air. My first thought is that I got a broken one right out of the box. I tried all the controls, nothing. When all else fails, RTFM! In the manual I noticed that the compressor can be up to 3 minutes late. So I waited a few minutes and it turned on and started blowing cold air. That's when I realized that the placement of this air conditioner was crucial. The vents either go straight up or at a 45-degree angle at best. Since my room is long and narrow, the air conditioner was at the other end, so obviously I needed a better way to circulate the air around the room to cool the ENTIRE room faster. So I made a valve out of the box to close the vents and direct air to the rest of the room. I set it to the maximum and even then it was quieter than any other air conditioner I've tried in the bedroom and others we have in the home, even when running LOW. Despite the rather large, oddly shaped room it was in, it kept moving for a long time, cooling the room even as the temperature climbed into the 90s. After 2 hours the temperature in the room had risen from 85 degrees to 74 degrees, although the outside temperature reached 95. At this point I was definitely impressed. I put it back to sleep mode and it did a pretty good job of maintaining 74 sounds throughout the room while remaining incredibly quiet. Late at night at 11pm it was still about 90 and I was still waiting to see if it passed my wife's loud sleep test. Went to bed nice and cool all night and my wife never complained about the noise. It's not absolutely quiet, of course, but it's very quiet. Now I'm going to put it by the window next to the bed, since we really only need to cool part of the space around the bed, not the entire room. It could run less frequently and do it. The remote control is pretty nice and what I like about it is that you can turn off the light on the AC unit and put it in dark mode. While it doesn't have a built-in thermostat in the remote that sends the temperature back to the air conditioner like Frigidaire does, that thermostat wasn't accurate. Additionally, the Frigidaire and Haier remote controls are infrared, so they must be in line of sight of the main air conditioner. In order for the Frigidaire remote thermostat to work, it must always be in a position opposite the air conditioner in order to update it. What Haier does to compensate for temperature fluctuations isn't as smooth as a thermostat in the remote, but it still works well. In economy mode, it turns on for a few minutes about every 10 minutes to circulate air through the unit to refresh the internal thermostat. I've seen many air conditioners get fooled by external air cooling and then never turn on even when the room is pretty hot. The remote shows most functions on the main display and also has a dark mode. It seems to be only available on the remote control. So overall I'm very satisfied. It costs a little more than others, but it was worth it for me. There is a very slight hum when the supercharger is turned on, but even at full revs with the supercharger on, it's not very quiet. I still don't like the vent design but I understand why they did it. I'll move the AC today and see if that works better. Because it's so quiet, I haven't had that option with others.
