These are designed for secret lock door handles, so the lock knob fits into the hollow part of the bumper and doesn't touch anything. I peel the backing from the adhesive, push the bumper against the handle above the latch knob, and then open the door until the bumper touches the wall to make sure the bumper is aligned properly. Of course, bumpers work with other types of knobs and levers as well.
