It is soft but small and see-through.
I can start by saying that this is a wonderfully soft color and the tan I chose was the color I was expecting. There are two things that bother me that the photos and description don't do justice. First, it's not a background. It is too small to fit a child's entire body in the frame. Second, there are huge gaps between all rivers. The only way I use it for a newborn session is in a basket with the same colored fabric behind or draped over the baby. I probably wouldn't buy any other.
