The spout comes in handy when I need to measure salt or pepper for baking or cooking. I don't have to remove the top or go to my large bins. The flow from the spout is easy to control - I like it. I also appreciate the clear glass and the ability to see the remaining level in the shakers. I use these shakers traditionally - salt has fewer holes and pepper has more holes. At the top. Salt flows well, and you need to use finely ground pepper. This is not a problem for me as I love peppers and use the spout when cooking and now at the dining table.
