Because these AA batteries are NiMH, they don't tend to lose charge capacity compared to NiCd batteries. Also, they are designed for a higher charging capacity of 1600 mAh, while the replaced NiCd are only rated for 750 mAh. Same 2.4V and AA size so perfect for a phone but easier to use in a phone for short calls and then charge fully without worrying about battery "memory effect" due to partial discharge - / to make loading cycles. NiMH batteries are also more environmentally friendly as they contain no toxic materials.
