My baby's weight is only in the 13th percentile for her age. I bought Wednesday when it was 13.5 pounds. Luckily it hardly fitted her very tightly, but I think if she had weighed a pound or two more it would have been too small. Average weight is listed as 17-23 pounds so I would recommend going up maybe TWO sizes if they are at the top of the listed range. Despite not being true to size, this is a good swim diaper.
