I lost the DRL bulb in my Passat and bought them with the promise that they wouldn't turn off any trouble codes or warn me that the bulb was blown. They work as intended. Theoretically, you remove a small panel in the wheel arch, open the front lamp cover, pull out the bulb and change it. I don't think human hands should bend like that. So I removed the grille and headlight assemblies, which made replacing the DRL bulbs a lot easier. Even after removing all the screws and fiddling with the grille to put it back on, it took 15 minutes. The new bulbs are not as bright as the old bulbs, but they are just as good as the DRLs.
