I was astounded at the extremes of praise and criticism I found in customer reviews before making my purchase, but I went ahead and bought the kit anyhow. What can I say, in general, all the praise is well-deserved and not exaggerated in any way. Most of the unfavorable reviews are from those who "took the model not for themselves" (Microsoft's marketing must have been too persuasive). If you can't type "blindly" on this keyboard, for instance, I don't see how you'd ever get by. There is no way to discuss ergonomics under these circumstances. The same is true for gripes regarding game mechanics or multimedia management. No matter how shiny it looks, my friends, this is a tool, and nothing more. First and foremost, the size of the function keys, especially ESC, is too small to be comfortable. This is a serious issue, and it will take time (if not forever) to adjust to it. It takes some getting used to the non-trivial layout of keys like INS, DEL, and others, but this model is unsuitable for those who cannot type "blindly." It's possible that the "prettyness" of the model (what we now term "design") fooled many people. This is a contentious decision, in my opinion. Instead of making the mouse bigger and heavier, I'd rather go without glitter so that the size of the function keys (this is crucial). But the user always assumes, and Microsoft is confident in its superiority and tends to make decisions for everyone. A hundred dollars, give or take, is a fair price. While not a Kinesis Ergo Erlan, this device outperforms standard keyboards by a wide margin. Don't be fooled by the curves; this kit is not for you if: - you can't type "blindly"; - printing isn't your main computer use; - multimedia features are crucial; - gaming is your main computer focus; - you care too much about mouse speed and other input lag. I appreciate your interest.
