Fire alarms currently require replacement every 10 years to comply with regulations. I love the built in long life battery, the dual sensors (ionization and optical) for top notch protection. Battery life remains to be seen, looks like they're not interchangeable but should last the expected lifespan of the device. If the installation site is not connected to smoke detectors, then this is a good option. Less expensive than wired options. The only downside is that if one of them fires, only one will fire, not all of them as they are not linked.
