This mat has been very helpful for me when working from home due to Covid19. Now I can sit on the couch and work on my laptop without feeling uncomfortable or warm on my lap. I love the fact that it can be carried around and its compact size that folds in half. While I could fit a 17" laptop on it, you lose the mouse pad, so I'd recommend sizes up to 14" and 15". It's durable, but I wouldn't say it's any better than a wooden laptop desk, but the slight compromise works in my case with the 14-inch Lenovo Thinkpad. The material feels soft and the gray color looks pleasant.
