How is a child supposed to put his foot in these shoes?

No tongue to allow a child's foot to flex to fit the shoe. The hole isn't much wider than his toe. Basically, the child should appear almost like a ballerina on pointe shoes, then slip into the shoe and awkwardly stretch the leg. It is impossible for a child aged 4 to carry it alone. I've never seen anything like it: the sole is open, it looks like a suspension bridge. I could see that even if we could wear shoes (which we never did) that the open-structure sole would likely break when a child jumped off the jungle gym for the first time. Or, even worse, collecting dirt, sand, and dirt while playing.

Pros
