I found them 100% waterproof a few times when my newborn peed or pooped on it. I have a changing pad on her dresser. There is a cover on the pillow and then one of these on top. The first time this happened I was sure it would drip onto the lid from underneath and I'd have to wash both and that it would be useless, but to my surprise the lid was bone dry. Then the same next time. It's a lot easier to toss in the wash than removing the pillowcases as you have to thread the seat belts through the covers. It was a great purchase!
