No read-only support - keep your valuable data away from it at all costs.

Unfortunately, this reader does not support the SD card's write-protect switch (for those who don't know, the write-protection is not managed within the card itself, instead the switch is a mechanical signal to the reader that must have a suitable sensor to detect the position of the switch (this reader does not have this sensor) Why it is important If you don't like the nasty surprise of your photos being accidentally destroyed by a device that happens to malfunction with your on read/write set card, you've probably learned how to keep your memory cards writable only when in camera and write-protected at all other times, but it doesn't work with this reader, I noticed this design flaw almost immediately when I read it out of the box, but still decided to take the risk because I haven't had any problems in years. how is it. But once when I tried to connect it to my phone in the field, for some reason the phone couldn't mount it securely and scattered corruption throughout the file system, rendering over a dozen images unreadable. Luckily I've already backed up most of them on a laptop (its built-in card reader, not cheap chinese junk, supports write protection) and only lost one completely, but it was enough that I couldn't risk it. with this thing again. I'm 2 months out of my return window and now I hardly ever use this product. The reason I wanted it was that the USB-C port could be connected to a smartphone without an additional adapter cable, but without write protection I can't trust this use case at all. All of my other computers have card readers built in, and I have several other USB readers that plug into port A that do not lack this important feature. I'd call it a paperweight, but I don't think it has nearly enough bulk to qualify (so I guess the only good thing I can say about it is that it's light).
