What I Need for Ceiling Lights

I am renovating a 1980's house. Above the dressing table in the guest area were two custom made oak ceiling lights, each using 3 large (6 inch) spherical bulbs screwed into porcelain bases. There was no way to redesign the main fixture, so I had to find a way to use the ceramic lamp bases in the existing fixtures (they protruded about 1 inch into the room). After looking for "options" (i.e. lampshades etc.) I happened to see these clamp-on shades in the shape of a cage. I ordered six (6). When they arrived they were made of thick welded wire with screw terminals on the top allowing them to be attached to ceramic lamp sockets. However, they were "black" (actually black vinyl coated) and I needed to change the color, so I primed them with a good quality all purpose spray primer and then sprayed them with two coats of oiled bronze metallic paint. turned out great. Before attaching these cage covers to the ceramic bases, I wrapped the visible part of the bases with black electrical tape. Not only did this hide the "white" color of the bases, the tape also provided a "cushion" between the cage clamp and the porcelain (to minimize cracking of the porcelain). I screwed them in place and then installed 60 watt Edison bulbs into each completed block. The end result was exactly what I was looking for. And everyone who saw the "transformation" said it really changed the look of this area.
