learned a lesson the hard way

Bought for my 2001 Chevy Tahoe. I tried the Dorman part first, but being the typical person who doesn't need instructions, I failed at this by connecting the power to the unit before it was installed in the mount. DO NOT DO THAT! This ACDelco part was an EXACT replacement for my truck and worked great. A little tricky to install, especially for taller men like me due to the location under the dash on the driver's side, but totally worth the savings in the $$$ it would cost to have a mechanic do it. Power on this device until everything is tight. Also, I set my controller to the defrost setting and made sure the door was in that mode when I installed this unit. The gears must be aligned for installation. When I first started the truck, the controls were opposite. This means that when you set the defrost function, the legs will be blown out and vice versa. I unplugged and unplugged the AC control box from the dash for about 5 minutes and then plugged it back in. Then he restarted the truck, calibrated it, and everything ran smoothly again. I don't know if this is "default procedure" but this is how it worked for me.
