I've used it about 8 times to bake oblong sourdough bread. Although it's quite difficult, I'm 63 years old, this is my job. It holds the heat well, I bake at 450. I put the bread on the lid and use the bottom as a dome, it's easy to get the bread out without burning your hands. This worked very well for me. I actually baked a 2lb loaf in it, it was huge. I am considering buying another one to bake 2 loaves at the same time. I LOVE IT! I always cook in cast iron. When I went to donate blood, my iron levels were always checked. The lady asked if I was taking iron supplements, my levels were so good. NO, I told her I've been cooking with cast iron for years and I think it ends up in your food.
