Review on 🚗 Enhance Vehicle Performance with Monroe SC2958 Magnum Axle Shaft Damper by Michael Cleveland

I bought a shock absorber to replace a 1999 Ford Explorer. The problem when I got this was that the collar in the wellies was too big 2 to fit in the brace. I had to use a hacksaw to cut 1/8" or 1/4" off each end of the shock. I'm not sure if this is due to the bent frame, but the damper didn't fit my car. Since I went to the trouble of replacing it, I'll offer some advice to those who will. . Tip number one: Buy a 12x1.75 tap and a thread cleaner. 20 years of rust prevented two screws from loosening. I had to use a 14" jackhammer and a PB blaster to get the bolts out in 2-3 hours. Thread cleaning and assembly back took 5 minutes. Tip number two: Have a hacksaw and vise ready to cut the bead in the rubber seal. (See image) Tip number three: Be sure to use jacks. You can buy them at the port for $25, that's what your safety is worth. It's not that I had any problems, but I'm older and wiser now. I've done a lot of stupid maintenance with just a jack. What mistake! Tip number four: This shock doesn't come with hardware replacements. Unlike other Monroe shocks that include new hardware, you must use the nuts and bolts already installed on the vehicle. Make sure you don't cut or damage any of them.
