99% of the time I use this for onions because I can't put into words that it's a stand alone vessel that allows me to get the tiny bits I want , without all the tears. But it's also great for other things: peppers, cucumbers, etc. But the blades are sharp, so a tip: keep the blades in a closed container in the sink so you don't cut and snip your finger. And at the bottom of the container is a small ledge to align the center post that holds the blades; I didn't notice it at first, so sometimes I couldn't pull the string, thinking it was because my pieces were too big. So as long as you get it right, it's great! :)
