I was going to buy the Surface Laptop 2 but it starts at $999 and you only get 128GB and a 13.5 inch screen. The one I set up with an extended warranty cost about $1,400 with a student discount. I got a Lenovo 730 for less than $800 with a SquareTrade Guarantee. I think Revain was under $700 when I bought it and Best Buy is $680. but I haven't bought anything from Best Buy since then. They have forbidden me to return the items. However, the shipping was quick and the product was new in the box, which I was a bit concerned about seeing some reviews of them receiving returned open laptops. But everything was in pristine condition and I was actually quite surprised by the quality of the 730. This is a 15.6-inch 2-in-1 laptop with internal specs comparable to the Surface Laptop 2 at a discount of 33%. The screen is good but not too bright. The speakers are surprisingly good, but I'm not a big audiophile. The battery life is not impressive at all. Maybe 3-4 hours for normal tasks at near maximum brightness. It didn't come with a stylus, although I was under the impression there was one when I bought it, but that doesn't really bother me as I wasn't planning on using it for writing anyway. The trackpad is fairly large and feels like smooth glass, and the keyboard feels pretty good with a decent swipe. I also thought there was USB-C charging, but actually there isn't. However, I had problems setting it up. I completed my initial boot process and installed a fresh, fresh install of Windows, but when I tried to uninstall a program or detach a tile from the Start menu, the uninstall was basically aborted. So I did a recovery install again. Then the initial startup routine asked me for my Microsoft credentials, which it didn't have before, so I entered them, but ended up with a custom folder name, which I didn't want, and there wasn't an easy way to substitute a user folder for one local account. So I did another recovery install. The same thing happened again the first time I couldn't remove or uninstall programs. Finally another recovery install and everything worked great. It took me about four hours to get there but I like everything and am happy with the product so far. Will update if anything changes for the worse.
