I'm not entirely sure what happened, but the locking tab disappeared a few days after I installed the tape. When the watch fell, I could find the shackle but not the pull tab. Since the pin was also missing, it was likely that the pin attaching it to the band was improperly set when the band was made. Luckily I still had the pull tab and ribbon from the old ribbon that ripped so I could use them to create a working group.
