I came home and said "Xbox is on" (I haven't updated her to Cortana yet). The TV didn't answer. I had a hard time removing my Kinect but it worked fine. I was pretty sure it was that stupid power cord box. But I checked local game stores, only to be told it wasn't the box but the device itself, and submitted it for a store credit on a newer device. My spider sense kicked in and I got an affordable spare adapter to experiment with. Viola! This was the only issue with my Xbox One S, so I'm glad I didn't take the stores at their word and spend money on a new gaming system. Came with a note on how to fix always-on mode, doesn't apply to me in this case.
