I don't know how this brace would work on someone with a recent injury. My story is this: I broke my wrist about two years ago and it has not healed painlessly. I live in Southern California and I'm fine in the summer. But as soon as the weather gets cooler, my wrist starts to hurt. As I live in the mountains the weather now averages 50° (yes I know it's not that cold in some places but enough to hurt me). My wrist is getting stiff and just hurts badly. When I recently cut something out of a cutting board, the mere movement caused me great pain. But when I put regular braces on, the pain gets worse after a while. The Ace bandage works better... But it's bulky and uncomfortable, and after wrapping my wrist I only have time before it starts to hurt instead of feeling better like the first time. Perfect. I can customize it the way I want it. And I've found that when it gets awkward wrapping it, I unwrap it, which takes about two seconds, and actually wrap it the other way around. I usually put it on the back of my hand, but for a few minutes I wrap it in my palm. By changing it this way, I can wear the brace all day, which greatly reduces my pain. And each shot takes maybe 10 seconds. I can handle it. It's pretty comfortable too. From the moment of breakage, anything that doesn't properly press down on the thumb can cause severe numbness and pain in the hand. Because of this, many curly braces just don't work. The loop around the thumb is pretty soft on this one, I had no problems.
