I've never experienced such an emotional roller coaster ride when buying toilet paper. In my fourth week at the COVID shelter, the toilet paper was running out and I started waiting for a rare roll of toilet paper. There were skeptics and many said it was impossible. But suddenly loot appeared in sight! A few timely clicks and "the murder was committed". Imagine joy. the highest of heights. A few days later, as the shipment was put on hold somewhere outside of Florida, the skies turned dark. Joy became distressed when the delivery was delayed; Information was sparse, the location of the loot is unknown. Then came the darkest hour: the package was considered lost. The depth of my sadness, the extent of my desperation can only be understood by someone who has only a few pages hanging from a sagging cardboard tube. But then, when all hope seemed lost, hope rose again: the package was found again and was on its way again. When the package arrived in my state, vacation! Not wanting to get our hopes too high, our optimism was dampened, but we held on to a hope known only to those with nothing to lose. We watched the movement of the package with bated breath, mesmerized once again by the whiff of possible success. Maybe. only possible. That mission would have been well and truly accomplished. When the box finally landed on our doorstep, the real excitement began. "Toilet paper is here! Toilet paper's here!” rang out from every corner of this humble rancher, and the thunderous clatter of excited children echoed through every room. Finally, after several days of observation, wonder and anticipation; Hope, sorrow and defeat, toilet paper has been welcomed into the hospitable arms of a loving home.
