We live 22 km from the transmitter of our favorite radio station. Before we bought this antenna we had a lot of interference and noise and the reception was poor, probably due to the fact that we live in the forest. Plugged it in and plugged it in as instructed and all it did was amplify the hiss and hiss. We live in a rural area away from interfering electrical equipment, cell towers etc so I have to say this is a line only antenna. It will probably work fine in a plain or in a big city. Luckily we can broadcast our local station, but now I'm trying an external mast antenna. Update: Turns out that if I put it in different places in the cabin, it picks up stations much better. Therefore, you must be prepared to move your radio. In my case I have an old school Kenwood component stack system (expensive when new) and it was a major hassle to move my system but now I hook up a local AM/FM transmitter and a couple up to 80 miles removed in Flagstaff and Prescott. Also turning the knob on the antenna to one side or the other really helps with fine tuning.
